Statements that are less interesting for Final Fantasy fans. We finally have the explanation of its name… why is it called like that?
According to the shared Square Enix has officially confirmed it. Surely some of you know of a legend that claims that the first Final Fantasy was named that way because Squaresoft feared that their company was close to bankruptcy. However, the reality is less dramatic.
Hironobu Sakaguchicreator of Final Fantasy, has finally clarified the origin of the name during the 35th anniversary of the franchise. According to Sakaguchi, the name was inspired by Fighting Fantasy, not a premonition of failure.
The development team was looking for a shortened nickname using letters from the Roman alphabet. In Japan, fans shortened Dragon Quest to Drakue, and they wanted something similar for their game. The original plan was to call the game Fighting Fantasy
For that reason, the team decided to name the game Final Fantasy. And that’s it! Undoubtedly very interesting for all the fans, who have recently received their most recent installment, Final Fantasy XVI. This recent title has been released exclusively on Sony’s PlayStation 5 console.
