I’m proud to say that I’ve been playing Helldivers 2 since it became available on PS5. I’m a veteran of Day 1 and have since accumulated around 100 hours of managed democracy. I follow the video game very closely and I have brought you all the news, curiosities, opinions and even some stories of my adventures on its battlefields.
Like many of you, I’ve had plenty of time to think about all the things I’d like to see happen. Helldivers 2 in the future. I’ve read enough people to know that the most requested items are more weapons and stratagems to blow things up, and the arrival of vehicles.
I don’t want to focus this post on those types of requests for a very simple reason: they will surely arrive little by little. Arrowhead has demonstrated this with the introduction of the mecha and the Quasar Cannon, for example. I want to talk about other proposals (some popular and others not so much) focused on improving the overall experience in Helldivers 2.
Seven things that should come to Helldivers 2 in the future
Favorite Stratagem System. Making other players wait is not a good idea, especially if the host is impatient and has a short fuse when it comes to kicking others out. Some people, including myself, tend to go crazy finding certain stratagems in the selection menu and that’s why it takes a little longer.
It would be ideal if the Stratagems section of the ship gave the option to mark up to 4-5 as favorites and have them appear with a badge in the selection area before a mission. The ideal would be a bar dedicated to favorites, although I would settle for a yellow halo around the icon or a star in the top corner to quickly identify them. This system could be applied to weapons and armor, although at the moment I don’t think there are enough to need it.
Sets of Equipment. Another parallel and non-discriminatory option along with the Favorites System is to have two or three slots for equipment configurations. The ship could add a “Uniforms” or “Quick Equipment” section in which we can store various equipment configurations: weapons, armor and stratagems. I give you an example of the three sets of equipment that I would configure:
- Set of Defense: ARC-12 BLIZTER (weapon), EX-30 Prototype 3 (armor), Sentinel Mortar, Sentinel with Automatic Cannon, Sentinel with Gatling and Tela Tower.
- Survival Set: LAS-16 SICKLE (weapon), Alpha Commander TR-117 (armor), Orbital Precision Strike or Eagle Cluster Bomb, Orbital Laser, Shield Generating Backpack and Quasar Cannon.
- Set against Terminids (Fire and Nests): SG-225IE Incendiary Breaker (weapon), CE-35 Trench Engineer (armor), Orbital Precision Strike or Air Strike with Eagle Napalm, Orbital Laser, Shield Generating Backpack and Flamethrower or Quasar Cannon.
And to make it interesting, I think that both the favorites system and the equipment sets should have their own unlock module on the ship through Samples. As for the aesthetic change of the ship (each module adds something), they could add an armor stand or a display case, for example.
Customization of ships, mechas and other vehicles. The customization of the ship has been one of the most repeated requests by hellidvers. At the moment, the only customization available (beyond what the modules change) is its name, which appears reflected on the side. It wouldn’t be bad to have War Bonds with aesthetic customizations: colors, shapes, different interiors, decorations, piece-by-piece customization of each module, etc.
On the other hand, it would be cool if the mechas and future vehicles could be customized. Considering that Arrowhead Game Studios plans to add all mecha types as different stratagems (according to leaks), I would reduce the customization to something aesthetic: color, stickers, camouflages and perhaps different styles: weathered, jungle with hanging grass, etc.
Stats and abilities for Helmets and Cloaks. As of this writing, only armor has special stats. Helmets and capes are little more than mere decorations. If they had their own passive abilities, Helldivers 2’s equipment system would take a giant leap in complexity and depth. There’s no official statement from Arrowhead as to whether they plan to implement them, but I think they should… and sooner rather than later.
Armor Transfiguration. Games like Destiny 2 and Diablo IV choose to give you many pieces with different abilities and statistics, but then we can change the physical appearance of all of them. Arrowhead has opted for a somewhat strange and opposite armor system: it has a lot of cosmetic armor, but most of them have the same few stats.
Helldivers 2 would be much better with a transmog system. Each skill has a base armor and then we could transfigure it to the rest that we have unlocked. Additionally, it would add more options when it comes to getting aesthetic armor. Now, we can only unlock them through War Bonds or the store, but it would be nice if the Supreme Orders had them as rewards and special locations such as bunkers had a very small percentage of dropping cosmetic items: armor, helmets, capes…
War Table Improvements: Attack and Supply Lines. The biggest problem with being a relatively new player is that Helldivers 2 doesn’t teach us even half of everything we need to know to play efficiently. Most players learn through trial and error, or through other players on Reddit, for example.

This makes war campaigns, organized through SuperEarth Supreme Orders, very confusing for many players. Often certain planets have to be taken before assaulting the main objective, but there are no visual indications of which ones they are and where the war is going. User Thekrzysiek created a concept (shared by @HelldiversAlert on Twitter) that shows the arrows to where the troops are going in the war.
Raids for up to 8 players. There are many voices that have proposed that there be some special planets that allow squads of 8 players to fight against larger hordes and/or final bosses of each faction. We know from the original Helldivers that these creatures exist and it would be great to be able to take on them alongside larger groups of players. While it would be a spectacle, I don’t know to what extent consoles and some PCs would be able to withstand so much explosion and shooting. This is the least likely proposition, but dreaming is free.
Finally and as a Bonus, it wouldn’t be bad if Arrowhead Game Studio improved its already splendid communication system with pings to add more options, making communication much easier for those who play with VOIP disabled. Perhaps this is the most possible proposal of all.
