Witch Hat Atelier finally released its first anime trailer at last week’s Anime Expo, and while it may be cause for concern for the production company behind it, it looks incredible.
It’s finally known: the Atelier anime is still in the works, with the first trailer having been released last week. Many fans of this very good manga series have been worried for a while, as there has been little news since its announcement in 2022, but the first trailer has been released, and the animation is beautiful and captures the feel of the original manga almost perfectly. The production company behind the upcoming adaptation has also finally been confirmed, and that’s Bug Films, which you may not have heard of given that this is its second full series, but you might know it from 2023’s Zoom 100: Bucket List of the Dead.
The name might be a little scary to those familiar with the series, as it was plagued by some serious production issues – episodes were delayed multiple times, resulting in the 12-episode series that started in July not wrapping up until the end of December. Still, Zom 100 is a great show, so if Bug Films can fix these issues, we should enjoy it.

The series has a number of talented composers, with Ayumu Watanabe, the director of Space Brothers and Komi no Koichi, set to direct the series. However, what’s even more exciting is that Yuka Kitamura, the composer of classic games such as Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring, will be composing the music for the series, which fits perfectly with a very unique fantasy world.
Hat Workshop tells the story of a little girl named Coco who desperately wants to be a witch, but lives in a world where only those born with magic can wield it. One day, she accidentally casts a spell that turns her mother to stone. She is rescued by a mysterious witch named Qifrey, who takes her in as an apprentice and teaches her about the world of magic. The anime doesn’t have a specific release date yet, but it will be available on Crunchyroll in 2025.
