Honestly, I couldn’t get out to the new stuff from the creators of Ori and the Blind Forest sooner because I wasted too much time dying. Indeed, we know that in Ori we died a lot, but we still moved forward, but without a doubt they stepped on the accelerator with “No Rest for the Wicked” with this difficulty, because it took me getting past some enemies and some difficult areas longer than that, I would like to However, as they say, you learn from everything, and now, finally, my journey through the game is easier to guess and is an absolute pleasure to enjoy.
Of course, the first thing to do is to define it well, because I read somewhere that it was a kind of Diablo but with Souls-style combat. Well, nothing could be further from the truth, and good news for “miyazaki lovers” who are looking for a challenge wherever they go, because No Rest for the Wicked is a Souls in its own right, and don’t let its perspective misleads you, because we have all the controls activated: difficulty, bonfires, interconnected maps, enemies with attack patterns to learn and much more, although in this case Moon Studios has been extremely clever, since has built an interesting bridge between soul lovers and the most classic RPGs.
But before we get to work, we need to talk a little about what this new universe is that they are already calling their own “Lords of the Ring.” In this case we will be a warrior from a legendary saga, the Cerim, who not only possess extraordinary abilities, but also the ability to use magic. This is why, when you arrive, without much explanation, in Sacramento, the island where the Plague reigns, a scourge that ravages the region, everyone calls you their Savior. But soon we will realize that It’s not just about being the hero and killing the bad guys, there’s an underlying plot that seems like it could be taken from Game of Thrones.
Because yes, the first thing that stands out from the “souls-like” is to offer a plot with beautiful real-time cutscenes which seem directly taken from the animated series Arcane, which left us speechless for its fantastic production quality. But also about how the world tries to be alive, with citizens who talk to you, serve you and of course, a central city to which we will always be connected through the portals where we are reborn.
Of course, all this is not yet fully defined since it is early access which has practically received patches daily with very interesting improvements both in terms of performance and the gameplay itself. And that’s the main thing, so let’s look at it in parts: combat, m anagement, and mapping.

Subtle innovations in his soul concept that bring him closer to a wider audience
The combat is everything we can expect from this type of ARPG, at the beginning we will have great difficulty adapting to the character’s endurance, since we will barely be able to make two or three attacks before losing ourselves. out of breath to be able to dodge, management being very important in combat, something that is maintained as we deepen more hours of gameplay, but which can be softened – as in any RPG – by focusing on the improvement of this attribute.
The aerial isometric view is what will initially mislead us about this style of combat, which, along with the scenarios themselves, with numerous well-prepared high-altitude crashes to ambush us, will make things very difficult, but it’s a great way to teach us because they only get these kinds of titles: die a lot. In fact, picking up a sword without carrying a light load is almost impossible at first, although It’s extremely satisfying to cut an enemy in half (literally, you can dismember him!) with a sword bigger than you.
Don’t worry about enemies regenerating when you die, at least for a while, because Moon Studios was right to give us a clear path… for 24 hours. If we clear an area of enemies, they will only appear at the start of a new day, for some reason we will continually have a clock with the time on the screen. For this and because There is a dynamic day-night system in which we can find surprises at different times.
Our inventory will also be limited in space, but not in a general way, but divided into parts: Armor and weapons, resources, supplies, etc. If we fill it up, we’ll have to make room. And I advise you especially at the beginning to take the inventory improvement in the resource drawer, because there are many that will help us build, improve or cook our own recipes. Because indeed, it is another change. Forget the refillable estus bottles each time you die, what we want now is to eat a good fish broth cooked to recover life in the middle of a fight. And for that, it is better to learn the recipe, find the ingredients and go to a campfire to cook it.
If I go into more detail, because I focus on what is important, another thing that we will have to get used to is a freedom that we are not used to in games with this type of view. Even though in Diablo everything is limited to paths, it is not the same in No Rest for the Wicked. With a very well represented physics system, we can jump from side to side, climb, scale cliffs, practice stealth deaths, just as if it were an authentic third person game, with a very rewarding freedom thanks to its flexibility. it’s the case. It means doing everything.
An impeccable animated film look
Normally I usually start prints with its visual aspect, but in this case it seems like the perfect finishing touch, because If Ori impressed you, No Rest fot the Wicked will leave you speechless. Its aesthetic, which seems entirely hand-painted, is preserved, but at the same time it is completely modernized, almost as if it were an animated film seen from above. Even the fluidity of the movement or the medieval fantasy setting itself are original compared to what we are used to seeing.
Watch both episodes of Ori It wasn’t too hard to guess that Moon Studios would do it again, but we didn’t think it would reach this level. in a jump as pronounced as that of a Metroidvania to an ARPG that seems to be much bigger than we can currently estimate. It is undoubtedly in early access, but we recommend that you give it a chance if you liked everything I told you. They have already confirmed that when version 1.0 comes out the game will cost more, so if you want to play it on PC via Steam, take the opportunity to take the plunge.
