Lightfall is the penultimate chapter in Destiny 2’s ongoing Light and Darkness saga, in which Guardians can encounter the baleful forces of the Shadow Legion, explore a secret city on Neptune’s surface, and discover a new focus of the power of darkness: Strang .
In Lightfall, Guardians are tasked with preventing the apocalypse by stopping the Witness and his newest apprentice, Calus. Along the way, the Guardians will encounter the Shadow Legion and fearsome, hulking new tormentors bent on destroying the high-tech capital city of Neomuna.
Guardians will have a new subclass in Lightfall. With the help of Strang, they can pull at the threads that hold the universe together and use unprecedented combat and movement abilities. Strang grants each Warden class powerful new attacks that they can use in unique ways, as well as a new grapple ability that greatly improves their mobility and throughput through the game.
Lightfall’s companion season, Season of the Resistance, arrives on the same day as the new expansion for Destiny 2. Guardians are called into action by Mara Sov and the Queen’s Guard to investigate the pyramid outposts appearing on the planet and the greatest enemies to face humanity. Players move onto the Resistance Battlegrounds – a new three-person activity coming with the Season – where Wardens use their newly acquired powers of the Awoken to open portals to the Ascendant Plane and face the Shadow Legion.
The new raid and race for World First starts on March 10th
Shortly after launching Lightfall, Bungie will unlock its latest raid, Root of Nightmares. Destiny Raids are challenging pinnacle activities for six seasoned Guardians who not only possess martial skills, but must also cooperate and overcome seemingly impossible challenges.
Root of Nightmares will be released for all Lightfall players on March 10th at 18:00 CET (17:00 UTC). With the launch of the raid, Bungie will also launch a global competition to crown the world’s first fireteam to complete the raid. The successful fireteam will receive a unique World First title belt for each fireteam member and, of course, the glory of earning the World First title. In the days following the Raid’s release, the winning team will be officially announced.
Destiny 2: Lightfall
Calus has returned as the Witness’ student and threatens to destroy the neon city of Neomuna. Guardians must brave the apocalypse, knowing that its end is now.
Strange – The newest elemental power in Destiny 2, Strand is powered by darkness, allowing Guardians to harness the cosmic strands of the universe to unleash powerful attacks. Each Warden class uses Strang in their own unique way, and all Wardens with Strang abilities can use the new Dangle ability to significantly increase their mobility in and out of combat.
Neomuna – This neon-drenched city on Neptune is the newest destination in Destiny 2. Besieged by Calus’ Shadow Legion, Neomuna is also home to the Guardians’ newest allies, the brave Curruli, who protect the city from invasion.
Legendary Campaign – The Legendary Campaign mode returns in Lightfall. Designed for players who want to experience the immersive story of Destiny 2 while testing their skills and earning better rewards.
Loadouts and mod customization options – New loadouts and mod customization features make customizing a Guardian faster and easier than ever. New mods can be viewed and placed from a single mod customization screen; Gear and mods can be stored in easily accessible loadout slots.
Appreciations and Guardian Ranks – Lightfall ships with two new social systems designed to encourage friendly play, teamwork, and help players better understand each other’s skills and experiences. Appreciations allow players to bestow a variety of awards on fireteam members for completing joint activities. Warden Ranks provide a quick overview of each Warden’s skill and experience level. Players can advance through the Guardian ranks by earning appreciations and completing in-game activities.
Terminal Overload – In this new destination activity, the Guardians repel attacks from both the Vex and the Cabal attempting to overrun the Neptunian city with their forces.
New Raid: Root of Nightmares – A terrifying being from an unknown time and place has made itself known. Guardians must confront the ancient threat that grows at the gates of their homeland. The raid begins on March 10th.

Season of Resistance
Destiny 2’s newest Season – Season of the Resistance – is upon us, and players can now earn new Season ranks. In Season of the Resistance, the Vanguard turns to their closest allies to respond after the Traveler’s assault. The Guardians must master the righteous powers of the Awakened to hold their own against the oncoming Shadow Legion and prove themselves as the Queensguard.
Resistance Battlegrounds – In this new three-player activity, Guardians must bypass the Shadow Legion’s security systems by entering their outposts from the Ascendant level. Navigate the abyss and free missing prisoners by completing rituals that open the pathways to safety.
Vanguard Ops playlist update – The updated Vanguard Ops playlist now includes Raid Battlegrounds and Psi Ops Battlegrounds, and will also include remastered versions of two Strikes: The Arms Dealer and Lake of Shadows.
Guardian Games 2023 – The annual Warden Class Clash takes place in May and is free to all Destiny 2 players. Hunters, Warlocks, and Titans will compete to complete events, collect medallions that can be used to earn valuable rewards, and claim a commemorative statue in the tower to boast about for a whole year.
