Despite confirming that the framerate will be 30FPS.
At Gamescom 2024, Xbox studio Obsidian Entertainment has revealed that its upcoming RPG “Avowed” will run at 30 FPS on console. Despite this lower frame rate target, the team says the game runs “very, very well” on Xbox Series X right now.
As part of a preview in Windows Central, Obsidian’s Matt Hansen spoke to the website about Avowed and its development from a technical perspective.
“We’ve been developing for Xbox and PC in tandem all the time, but honestly, one of the things that surprised me the most is that early on in development, we realized that the Xbox Series X often outperformed the PC. The console runs really, really well.
The developer also mentioned the Xbox Series S and how the team is “still figuring out the specs” for that version of the game.. Obsidian mentions that the Series S “lacks some of the extras” of the Xbox Series X, so we can expect the game’s specs to be lower on the digital machine.
Despite the controversy raised by the announcement of 30 FPS, Gamescom left us with many other good things about Avowed. Earlier this week, a fairly comprehensive gameplay demo was followed by over an hour of new footage, and yes, it’s safe to say that we’re pretty excited about this game right now.
