A few weeks ago the sad news was announced, the Sea of Thieves Arena would be closing its doors for good; and finally and although it weighs on us, this day has arrived.
Anyone who jumped into Sea of Thieves today will have noticed, but as of today, the Arena is no longer available in Rare’s popular title. And it is that finally and due to the low influx of players who have entered this game mode, the arena has been permanently removed from Sea of Thieves.
Only 2% of Sea of Thieves users have accessed the Arena
It’s never a tasteful thing to have to undo something you’ve put so much work and effort into, but in the case of Sea of Thieves Arena, it was simply unsustainable. And it is that despite the fact that Sea of Thieves has a huge and constantly growing community of players, the reality is that only 2% of users regularly entered Arena mode.
This is undoubtedly sad news for users of this game mode, however, and as they said in the notice in which the closure was announced in this way, Arena has never been popular enough to warrant the work done on Adventure mode.
We’re guessing we’re going to get some flak for not spending enough time with Arena to give it the best as we did with Adventure mode. But the reality is that Arena, as a new platform, has never been popular enough to warrant our creative efforts, even as we have tried to refine it to appeal to all types of players.
However, even though the arena disappears from Sea of Thieves, it does so on the same day as season 6 landsa new season full of novelties and new adventures, so that even the most fond of this game mode will find plenty of reasons to take to the open sea.
