The development continues its course, let’s not stop the updates: a new Android Auto appears on the horizon to bring new features to the cars. Specific, Google has just released the beta version of Android Auto 8.6, the first version under development after Coolwalk’s final activation. Unfortunately, the new interface is still not active by default.
What a sprint Google has taken with Android Auto: from having virtually no news on the operating system for vehicles to filling the news with one of the most anticipated novelties: the activation of Coolwalk for all users. This activation is gradual and, for the moment, found only for those who signed up for the beta program
Android 8.6 beta now available for everyone
As is customary at Google, the company releases a new beta shortly after the release of the previous stable version. Specifically, very recently we pointed out that Android Auto 8.5 exited the experimental phase; so it took very little time for the Android Auto 8.6 beta to arrive, as it did.
The new version of the system for cars is already available for those who have registered for the test program, it can also be downloaded for free from APK Mirror. Keep Coolwalk as the default interface in beta accountsimproves stability and compatibility with vehicles and still includes an annoying bug: Google has not fixed the Thumbtack Android auto shutdown when settings are changed from phone menu.
If you want to download the new version of Android Auto 8.6, you just have to follow the following process:
- Try to enter the beta version by clicking on this link. In case it is complete, continue the process.
- Go to APK Mirror and download the installer file to your phone.
- install the APK: you will see that it will update your Android Auto. The file is secure and signed by Google.
- We recommend that you restart the phone after installing Android Auto 8.6: in this way, you will have less risk of experiencing a shutdown when connecting the mobile to the car.
The Android Auto 8.6 beta doesn’t bring Coolwalk to all cars, at least for now. Since the interface is activated from the servers, it would not be strange if Google distributed it automatically once the stable version is online. It’s a matter of waiting.
