The impossible challenge
It has been almost thirty years since players from Super Mario 64 Take on a totally crazy challenge: complete the game without ever pressing the A button. For those few who don’t know, the A button is probably the most important in any Mario game, as it allows the famous mustachioed plumber to jump. Most of the games in the license are platform games, so logically, players are forced to press the A button very often.
And it was with this idea that the ABC Challenge, or A Button Challenge, was born in the early 2000s, which involves breaking the main design of the game in order to complete it. A downright crazy challenge that players have faced numerous times over the last two decades. And for the first time in history, a player has managed to pull off this feat.

An incredible run
This time it’s official: streamer Marbler has finally achieved the impossible by completing Super Mario 64 without ever using the A button. An incredible feat, recorded live. In the end, after more than 86 hours of gameplay, the player will have managed to complete the ABC challenge.
However, this run has a few peculiarities. Firstly, it is not about obtaining game stars, but rather it was held in the Any% category of the ABC Challenge. In addition, Marbler launched an attack on Super Mario 64 in the Wii’s virtual console version, the only one to date that would have made it possible to complete this challenge. However, the player did not remap any buttons on his controller and actually completed the ABC challenge within the rules. It remains to be seen whether players can achieve such a feat in a 120-star run.
