With the next update, Diablo 4 plans to remove a historical feature from the license, much to the dismay of many fans of Blizzard’s hack’n slash.
As an iconic element of the legendary Blizzard series, the character selection screen will undergo a change with the Diablo 4 Update 2.0, which will be released on October 8th at the same time as the DLC “Vessel of Hatred” and which is obviously not to everyone’s taste.

Since the release of the first opus in 1996, Blizzard’s hack’n slash franchise has offered us a character selection screen that has now become iconic. The different classes to choose from were actually presented to us around the campfire, representing a kind of camaraderie in the face of darkness and the overwhelming forces of evil. However, in preparation for the release of the first DLC for Diablo 4, update 2.0 will relegate this historic element of the license to the past. Another controversial decision by Blizzard that obviously doesn’t make everyone happy.
Some players who have been testing Diablo 4’s next major update through a public test realm have already mourned yesterday’s character selection screen. From now on, we are entitled to a menu that highlights only one class, so to see the others you have to hover over the corresponding icon. However, this new screen contains a brief description of each class and their different play styles.
However, early fans are regretting the loss of such an iconic element, which for them could mean more profound changes in Diablo 4, and not necessarily in a positive way. Verdict on October 8th, when the game hits version 2.0, and to see if Vessel of Hatred will have the same impact as the saving grace of the Reaper of Souls expansion for Diablo 3.
