The creators of Game of Thrones had big plans for Star Wars: David Benioff and DB Weiss actually wanted to dedicate an entire trilogy to the story of the first Jedi. This would originally have been the first Star Wars film, which was released in cinemas after Episode 9.
But nothing came of it, after the project was pulled in 2019. According to Benioff and Weiss, this wasn’t due to the shitstorm after the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, when the two showrunners fell out of favor with fans. Instead, Disney and Lucasfilm had no interest in her story idea.
No longer interested in Star Wars
Now Benioff and Weiss reveal in a new interview GamesRadarthat Star Wars is done for them. Both definitely have no plans to return to Disney and Lucasfilm for another pitch. Weiss explains:
In my opinion, with established franchises such as Star Wars or James Bond, there is less freedom when it comes to telling a story. Dan [Weiss] and I learned that it’s more fun to start over.
The most famous productions by Benioff and Weiss are undoubtedly Game of Thrones and 3 Body Problem – both adaptations of well-known novel series. Benioff also addresses this:
Of course we will [bei 3 Body Problem] on the shoulders of [Autor] Cixin Liu, who wrote the books. But we are now the ones who [seine Geschichte] adapted for English-speaking countries. This gives us a lot of freedom in how we can tell this story and it’s a lot more fun for us.

Disney is now telling the story of the first Jedi
In fact, Disney seems to have changed its mind about making a film about the origins of the Jedi. Because now you have James Mangold (Logan, Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Fortune) is committed to embracing this concept.
Mangold is currently working on a Star Wars film that takes place 25,000 years before the events of the three trilogies and during the time of the Old Republic. It’s supposed to be about the very first Jedi and how they learn to use the Force.
