With this incredible new record, God of War Ragnarok surpasses all other PlayStation exclusives. Unprecedented in Sony Interactive Entertainment history.
Acclaimed by the press and players alike, God of War Ragnarok is a smashing success that is far more important than the previous episode.
God of War Ragnarok sells millions of copies
In the first five days after launch God of War Ragnarok the meters exploded. This fantastic sequel has sold 5.1 million copies. It far surpasses God of War (2018) and its 3.1 million copies sold.
With numbers like that, GOW Ragnarok became the fastest-selling PlayStation exclusive in the manufacturer’s history, and also a historic record for the franchise. To help you understand, here’s a comparison of the other first-party Sony games when they release.
- God of War: Ragnarok: 5.1 million
- The Last of Us Part II: plus 4 million
- FF7 Remake: 3.5 million
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: 3.3 million
The bellows haven’t fallen since the Santa Monica Studio — not without a certain pride — announced the sale 11 million copies of God of War Ragnarok
We are very touched to announce that God of War Ragnarok has sold 11 million copies! All of this would not have been possible without the support of the fans, so thank you for embarking on this journey with us.

The future of franchising
Will God of War Ragnarok expand the experience with a solo DLC/expansion? No, according to game director Eric Williams.
I don’t know. This game is massive. We put everything we had into it so I wouldn’t count on it.
On the other hand, and given the success, a new PS5 episode should see the light of day, but it remains to be seen where Kratos will take the player. In fact, Ragnarok was the conclusion of Norse mythology. A title, if it was going to launch, probably wouldn’t appear before the God of War series.
