The so-called Time to Kill is once again a much-discussed topic in the beta of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. Even the predecessor was criticized by some fans for the fact that characters die too quickly. Quick deaths and short TTKs are actually more the hallmark of hardcore shooters, where sometimes a single hit ends virtual life.
Like the well-known shooter YouTuber TheXclusiveAce
now checked, the TTK of CoD Modern Warfare 2 does not seem to step out of line. Rather, his data suggests that some weapons are even slower than in the 2019 CoD: MW.
However, the criticism is not entirely out of thin air, because there are a few plausible reasons for the perception.

How does MW 2 compare to other Call of Duty games?
First, the YouTuber determined the TTK of several assault rifles, including the Lachmann 556 and the M4 from the CoD: MW2 beta. He calculated the theoretical time to kill by repeatedly taking measurements in gunfire exchanges.
He then compared the average TTK in milliseconds to previous measurements of other games in the series. The time was lower than with Vanguard or Cold War, but even showed a slight increase compared to CoD MW.
The result for the submachine guns was a bit faster than in CoD MW from 2019, but was roughly on par with the original Modern Warfare titles. The YouTuber thus suggests that the TTK is roughly at the same level for all titles in the MW series so far. Accordingly, the new MW 2 plays like a typical Call of Duty from Infinity Ward.

Why does the TTK feel so short?
The perceived quick deaths provide a lot to talk about. For us, too, it is one of the most important impressions that we take away from the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta:

Our 7 beta insights
TheXclusiveAce offers a few plausible reasons for feeling like deaths are coming in a lot quicker.
- The acoustic hit mark, i.e. a sound that sounds with every hit, does not count correctly according to the YouTuber. In addition, the markers are quiet and therefore easy to overhear. This could give the impression that only a few shots reach their target before the opponent is defeated – thereby reducing the felt TTK.
- The YouTuber locates one good connection quality and a tick rate of over 60 Hertz as a reason why hit detection and thus the kills could feel faster.
- Through the positively emphasized by us high sound quality it’s easier to locate enemies based on footsteps, which in turn helps target approaching enemies faster. That could also create a feeling that one blesses the temporal faster.
