Immortals of Aveum is an ambitious first-person magic shooter from Ascendant Studios. Postponed until August 22. The game was originally slated to launch on July 20, but the studio announced that it needed more time to polish the game.
In a statement shared on the Ascendant Studios website, Brett and the team said: “Your response to Immortals of Aveum over the past few weeks has been very inspiring. […] As you know, this is our first game as a self-funded independent studio. Five years ago, we set out with great ambition to make an original magical first-person shooter in a new fantasy world. Along the way, we’ve weathered a pandemic, formed a new team, developed on Unreal Engine 5.1, and pushed the boundaries of what we thought was possible. Now, the finish line is in sight. “
Bret and the team continued: “Recent feedback on the game has confirmed to us what we already feel: Immortals of Aveum is special. In order to realize our full vision, we will take a few extra weeks and push the new release date Tuesday, August 22nd. This will give us time to further polish the game, complete all platform optimizations, and achieve a strong launch. For ourselves, and for you, we have a responsibility to get this right.”
While any news of a delay is disappointing, many of us were hoping the studio would spend all of its time perfecting the game. After all, I’d rather wait for it to end and play a finished game than play it now and be overwhelmed by performance issues and such. On the downside, August is currently filled with releases from the likes of Lies of P, Baldur’s Gate 3, Ark: Survival Ascension, and Armored Core 6, so, for some, freeing up Time to play Immortals of Aveum can be an issue.
Ascendant Studios, a new team of industry veterans who’ve worked on games like Call of Duty and The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series, is building something special with its first foray, Immortals of Aveum .
The response to Immortals of Aveum has been pretty good so far. In our hands-on preview, we thought it “generally succeeded in delivering what it was intended to do, with a few caveats”. After all, a game that takes inspiration from games like Doom, BioShock, and God of War can’t be bad, can it? I think we’ll see on August 22 whether this blockbuster hits.
