The success of Helldivers 2 almost became a complete fiasco because of a single decision. But the storm has passed and gamers are starting to forgive PlayStation.
Since its release, Helldivers 2 has been a pretty crazy hit that has completely overwhelmed the developers at Arrowhead Game Studios. Such success was obviously unexpected, and yet it happened. But in the last few days we have seen an equally violent change. An outcry that was sparked by Sony wanting to force Steam players to create a PlayStation Network account and link it to that of the Valve platform. In response to this announcement, the community carried out a so-called review bombing and completely dropped the previously extremely positive reviews.
A positive review from Steam for Helldivers 2
Faced with the anger of Steam players, Sony backed down. “Helldivers fans – we’ve listened to your feedback on the account linking update for Helldivers 2. The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network accounts to be linked for new and returning players from current players starting May 30, will not take place.”
This very negative feedback as well as the discussions between Arrowhead Game Studios and the affected people at Sony Interactive Entertainment made it possible to put out the fire. But that’s not all, because Steam users have also taken their own step. After receiving more than 300,000 negative reviews in just three days, more than 200,000 positive reviews have been added to Helldivers 2’s profile on Steam. The game thus regains color after it is destroyed. While the stock had fallen to 43% positive ratings, it rose back to 71%. Since Helldivers 2 was more than 80% green, there’s still a long way to go, but it’s already a good start. Freedom and democracy have triumphed!
