final fantasy 16 Probably doesn’t need a big one-day patch like most games do (just a small one), but it launches with a bunch of annoying settings turned on by default, and there’s no way to turn them off.
It also lacks some options that most games offer. Many of these issues have been corrected with today’s patch, Version 1.03. The update is out now on PS5, and it’s one that most players should appreciate.
The biggest news is the motion blur setting. After patching, you’ll be able to adjust the intensity of the motion blur. Right now it maxes out at 5, but you can turn it all the way down to zero to turn it off completely.
The intensity of motion blur in Final Fantasy XVI is respectable, especially if you choose to play in Performance Mode. But there’s another factor that affects the perception of motion blur, and that’s the constant camera following in games.
In Final Fantasy XVI, the camera will always In any scene, it revolves around the character. Of course, you want it in battle, but not while traveling the world. This constant correction of camera motion is unnerving for sensitive players, and the heavy motion blur doesn’t help.
Thankfully, patch 1.03 allows you to turn off camera following during combat and normal movement. Speaking of camera settings, the sensitivity range is now wider. You can go all the way up to 20 from the previous maximum of 10. This applies to both horizontal and vertical sensitivities.
Players not interested in existing control schemes (or those who have been waiting for more content to get their hands on the game) will be happy to know that Final Fantasy XVI now includes three new controller layouts: D, E, and F. Unfortunately, you still can’t remap the entire thing to your liking, but maybe one of the six layouts will suffice.
Finally, the patch also fixes various issues that sometimes occur with the game menu, such as sluggishness, lag when switching pages, etc.
Since its release, Final Fantasy XVI has digitally sold and shipped more than 3 million copies. It’s certainly not the tallest we’ve seen, but then again, the game works on a single platform.
