Final Fantasy 16 revealed a whole host of new gameplay elements. Environments, Combat, Live Demo, Fast Travel, Accessibility. Here’s what to remember.
The Final Fantasy 16 advertising machine is on its way. At this point, it’s difficult to remember that the next episode number of the saga was walled in complete silence for many months. As the game’s release slowly approaches, Square Enix doesn’t seem to miss a single opportunity to show off its PS5 exclusivity. After revealing a few excerpts, some of which have been discussed, Naoki Yoshida traveled to PAX East 2023 to reveal new images from FF16. Story, environments, fights… the Japanese publisher continues to make its fans long for one of this year’s must-sees.
A long presentation of Final Fantasy 16

Yoshi-P therefore wanted to remind that his new baby revolves around four pillars: the story, the characters, the fights and the graphics. Louder than words, this time the savior of FF14 has arrived with a whole host of new never-before-seen shots that will make fans dream. These are therefore new panoramas that have been unveiled for the time of a short trailer, with the team emphasizing outdoor environments in particular, to address the concerns of players who feared they were just overlooking locations that were too dark.
Fast travel in four seconds
To reassure them, the producer revealed a live demo of Final Fantasy 16. We can see Clive, Jill and good old Talgor walking through a more open desert environment and then leading to a village. The opportunity also to discover for the first time The map of the world shows all areas that can be explored during the adventure, or at least 19 based on what has been revealed. Players can then return to any visited location whenever they wish to deviate from the main quest, thanks to fast travel, which transports them from one city to another in just four seconds.
This FF16 demo also showed some shops where the hero can get supplies. Some cities also host a Pierre d’Arete ‘, which transports the hero to a sort of virtual world where he can train in battle, repeat certain clashes to get the best score (arcade mode), or simply retry the scenes. Another possibility is still being kept secret. The producer promises that this was just a very small overview of the side activities, but we’ll have to wait before finding out more.
FF16 RPG mechanics will be revealed next month
The fights and the primordials have also been highlighted with gameplay sequences that promise increasingly violent and nervous confrontations. Yoshi-P also recalls that the famous battles of these formidable creatures will all have a different feel and reveals a taste of each, not too much so as not to spoil too much. Aware of concerns surrounding the promotions page Final Fantasy 16, the producer showed the famous accessories that will make the game more accessible through a live gameplay demo. For the record, the game won’t have a classic difficulty mode, everyone will be able to customize their experience to make it easier on certain aspects of combat. One of them allows you to dodge more easily via a QTE, while another automatically dodges all attacks, for example.
A final quite dense presentation, which unfortunately has not yet concretely shown the RPG mechanics Final Fantasy 16. Yoshi-P gives players an appointment in April.
