News culture Harry Potter: One of the directors of the saga wants his Director’s Cut
In December, it will be 20 years since the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone came to theaters. And, according to The Wrap, the director of the film (and the Prisoner of Azkaban) wants to release a version that the public has never seen.

it is Peeves, a mischievous poltergeist whose characters often cross. This last one was actually integrated into the film, played by Rik Mayall, but the footage was eventually removed. The trial version conjured up by Chris Colombus takes 3 hours
We knew the film would work because we did a few previews. I’m particularly thinking of a show in Chicago where our first cut lasted almost three hours. The parents then said it was too long, the children said it was too short. I thought kids probably have shorter attention spans, so that’s a good thing. Almost half an hour of footage was then removed. (…) We have to reinstate Peeves who was cut out of the film!
When asked by The Wrap, a Warner Bros. representative, stated that to the best of his knowledge no plans Director’s Cut of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was not in progress. It is hard to imagine, however, that the production company would not heed the fans’ desire to see the extended versions of the films, stripped of many sequences to fit into an acceptable format. And you, would you like to discover this version including the mischievous Peeves?
