Helldivers 2 is one of the biggest surprise hits of the gaming year so far. Could it now also get a story mode? The developers have now commented on this.
Helldivers 2 took the gaming world by storm and achieved excellent player numbers. The only thing that put a damper on things was the controversy surrounding the planned introduction of the requirement to link a PSN account via Steam. After the makers backtracked on this following much criticism, the action hit is back in calmer waters and enjoying success.
However, some players would like to have a story mode that can also be played cooperatively in addition to the already available gameplay. Given the success of the title, is this a real option for Arrowhead Studios? The answer is: unfortunately not!
The topic was taken up by a fan via X (formerly Twitter) – and the CEO of Arrowhead Studios actually responded to the request, albeit unfortunately with a negative attitude.
“That’s not going to happen. Sorry bro,” says the head of the development studio, before immediately providing the reason: “That would be like making a completely new game.” In short: A story mode is simply too much work and would tie up too many resources at the studio level.
Helldivers 2 is available for PC and PlayStation 5.
