Due to the spread of the corona virus, many larger events such as the E3 are currently canceled. This should not apply to gamescom 2020. Already in the past it was declared that the fair definitely to take place
Nobody can say at the moment how exactly the situation will look at the end of August. However, the organizers of the fair are preparing for the worst and assume that gamescom 2020 will probably be “not normal”. Therefore one plans the following:
- No shifts: The trade fair itself and the devcom developer conference are scheduled to take place from August 25 to 29, 2020.
- At least one online event: As early as 2019, millions of users only followed the fair online. This will also be possible this year. The digital form of gamescom will definitely take place – regardless of whether the actual visitor fair may not take place in Cologne after all.
- Focus on digital content: The already planned digital content such as the Opening Night Live and gamescom now will be expanded and further modules added.
Further information on the planned online content is expected to be announced in the coming months.

Is there a physical event?
The final decision about the physical flow of gamescom 2020 in Cologne, however, is to be made in mid-May. To do this, the situation will be assessed together with the responsible government agencies. Only then do you want to make a decision regarding necessary changes in the process that relate to the protection of visitors and their health.
Refunds are possible: In the event that the event in Cologne fails on site, all participants will be reimbursed the entire costs. This applies not only to trade fair visitors, but also to the exhibitors.
