Game news If Star Wars Jedi Survivor fixes these bugs in Fallen Order, it’s going to be huge!

While Star Wars Jedi Survivor is a little over a month away, I recently got to the end of its predecessor, Fallen Order. Believe me, if Electronic Arts and Respawn fix everything that’s missing from the first part, we could have something very successful. Here is my little review.
A History of Perspective:
This article is an opinion piece, it is inherently subjective. The opinion of the author is personal and not representative of that of the rest of the JV editorial team. Thanks in advance, enjoy reading!
Say see Indee, do you like Star Wars? I’d say I’m a “moderate” fan. Growing up on prelogy and dreaming (especially The Phantom Menace), I had stars in my eyes – died laughing – when I heard the main theme at the beginning of Episode 9 , but I never got used to the expanded universe, whether it’s TV series or books. On the other hand, I’ve wandered the world of video games in the galaxy of George Lucas. I have fond memories of Rebel Strike on Gamecube and Revenge of the Sith (PS2). I really liked The Force Unleashed in 2009. And here comes Jedi Fallen Order.
A new hope
You’ll get it: I finished Electronic Arts and Respawn’s baby a few days ago in preparation for the release of its sequel, Jedi Survivor (April 28, 2023 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series). As you understood again: The 2019 episode clearly has flaws in my opinion, but flaws that aren’t complicated to fix ! It gives me hope for the new adventures of Cal Kestits.
To put things in context, Fallen Order is an action-adventure title that mixes Souls-like and 3D Metroidvania. Basically, lightsaber gameplay is demanding on the one hand and often leads to returning to a checkpoint after a failure. On the other hand, there are passages in the explored planets that only open once a key skill has been unlocked (e.g. wall racing). For that last point: it’s either 100% optional or it’s included in the progression.
Overall, the Fallen Order formula works pretty well. There are moments when I really enjoyed the exploration phases | of the action, whether that’s thanks to an artistic direction that – at times – broadcasts fiercely, or a gameplay that expands without warning (particularly through the dual lightsaber). But these two aspects can still be refined to a large extent! I for one found the Fallen Order level design quite inconsistent | Fights that are often imprecise or even frustrating, especially when the number of enemies multiplies. The animations lack polish, as does the writing. The two “last” planets, Dathomir and Nur, are way too far down in my opinion.
Return of the Jedi
What could Jedi Survivor do better than Fallen Order? Finally… almost everything. From what we already know: Call Kest is will soon benefit from five fighting stances
Finally, we know that Jedi Survivor will offer the hero a new range of movements – with the arrival of a grappling hook, a leap into the air, and even mounts (this is undoubtedly the promise of more open areas). The icing on the cake, in addition to the droids BD-1 and Cere already present in the previous part, Cal Kestis can count on Bode Akuna, a new character… Stig Asmussen, leader of the project, describes him as “companion IA”, who will be there in the combat and exploration phase. Respawn arguably holds the key to driving its storytelling forward ! As a reminder, Jedi Survivor promises to be “darker and more challenging” than Fallen Order. Above all, I hope for more success.
“Set five years after the events of Fallen Order (Jedi Survivor) is Cal’s fight, the outcome of which seems increasingly unfavorable (…). Pushed to the edge of the galaxy by the Empire, he must face ever-increasing threats, including familiar-faced opponents.” – Description of Star Wars Jedi Survivor (via Steam)
