Greetings again to readers. It’s hard to believe it’s been a full week since I rewrote the last one, but the calendar doesn’t lie. iGamesNews The Best Games Ever Podcast returns, episode 4. This week we’re talking about the most British thing: pubs. By “talking” I mean arguing with the bar about the best game. Is the game good or not, and what is a good bar? These and more will be conveyed to you through the medium of conversation in the podcast below.
“What is iGamesNews’s best gaming podcast ever?” you ask, presumably because you haven’t read one of these pages before, as if you already knew. Anyway, if you still need to be told, here’s the inside scoop: Every week the three of us have to present our selection of the best games that fit the show’s title (this week it has to be what we think is actually a really good game, with a bar – or some kind of bar/drinking establishment). Then our host/judge Jim Trinca will use his bias to announce the winner, leaving the two of us in a bind.
Each episode of the Best Games Ever Podcast will be approximately 30 minutes long. Enough that you can eat an entire bag of share-sized chocolates without having to pace yourself too much, but not so long that you have to go for Doritos. Hopefully you’ll find room for 30 minutes in your podcast listening plan. If not, just cut out one of the boring ones. Do you really need 15 true crime shows, one about the life of a dog walker, and a rant about someone who only dines in unlimited restaurants? Fair enough, I’ll listen to the last one.
now it’s right. Check out iGamesNews’s The Best Games Ever Podcast on Apple Podcasts and subscribe. Or listen on Spotify. It’s even on YouTube if that’s your thing. Be sure to let us know what you think of the show – if this is your first time listening, come back and listen to the previous episodes. They’re not hot topics at least, so go wild.
We’ve included some details on the show’s content below (if you want a refresher for a great, thoughtful post before heading over to the comments), so don’t scroll through this pendulum if you want to avoid spoilers People in poses (support iGamesNews, Friends of People Make Games on Patreon).
best games with bars
This is the subject of the fourth episode of iGamesNews’s Best Gaming Podcast Ever. Here’s a rundown of who chose what.
Tom – Prey 2006
Prey, the 2006 game wasn’t totally different, it was a totally different Arkane reboot, most of its time – all the big guns, super violent and scary human-machine hybrid, but it’s a really fun shooter, There’s an excellent portal mechanic – before Ratchet and Clank and the like: Rift Apart did something similar (and better). It also has a great bar with bar fights and Fear the Reaper on the jukebox. This is an era classic.
Alex – The Secret of Monkey Island
When I think of in-game bars, most games that immediately come to mind do this because their bars are scary comics, or completely unrealistic. While I’ve never actually been to a pirate bar in real life, I have to imagine that even if I were to the Scumm Bar it wouldn’t elicit this kind of reaction – it just felt like a real, legitimate location that fits perfectly its world. It’s mostly about the vibe – limited color palette, single screen and music track, and it sells itself as a credible location. It shares much of the game with the secrets of Monkey Isl and. I can listen to upbeat music in the bar all day.
Connor – Everyone Goes to Ecstasy
When I have to think of a game with bars, the first game that comes to my mind is Everyone’s Gone to the Rapture, a cool little game that won a lot of awards when it first launched in 2015. Not only is it pretty and has a funny story, but it looks really cute, and it has multiple English country pubs you can check out! We’re talking tile roof, white exterior paint job, wooden interior, and proper faucet handles built into the bar. You even have the sketchy red bottle and gin handy. For me it captures the actual look and feel of a British pub better than any other game!
Let us know which game you would choose and if you agree that Jim must be blocked. If you like this podcast, please subscribe and leave a comment saying how great it is and tell all your friends. Tweet it if you want, or post it on Facebook – we’ll get as much exposure as possible.
Came back a week later for another best game of all time.
