It’s official, the creator of Super Smash Bros Ultimate has declared that it’s time to turn the page. So what does this mean for the future?
Super Smash Bros Ultimate is starting to show its age and still has a loyal community. This franchise is clearly one of Nintendo’s great titles, and at the same time we understand the appeal. A fighting game that brings together a whole cast of characters from the Big N franchises (or more if it’s a collaboration)? It’s a concept that will be a huge success. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and that includes the latest episode.
The creator of Super Smash Bros. moves on
For some of you, this might not be a big surprise. Super Smash Bros Ultimate will no longer welcome new fighters, and we already know that. In fact, Masahiro Sakurai spoke after the release of the amiibo dedicated to Sora. It’s the only one that hasn’t arrived yet. Now everyone in the cast has one. For our man, this means the end of his work on this game, which celebrated its fifth birthday last December. It’s time to turn the page and set sail for new adventures.
Sora’s Amiibo releases today. Thank you to everyone who worked on this (it was an incredible achievement). The design was always perfect and the details and colors are exactly as expected. The pose and sculpt are also beautiful.
Now that all fighters have an Amiibo, my work on Super Smash Bros Ultimate is almost complete. Thank you for everything.
And do we know what to expect in this regard? Well, that’s hard to say. Contrary to what we might have thought, Sakurai isn’t going to stop there. He will continue to play games, as he confirmed in January 2024. Obviously we don’t know what his plans are for the future. Another fighting game? A new Super Smash Bros.? Maybe, but we will avoid getting too far ahead of ourselves. In any case, fans of the license have their eyes set on the future and just have to wait for news from Nintendo.
