News culture Marvel goes all out: Disney calls on the worst superheroes from the Avengers to reboot its cinematic universe!
2024 was a unique year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After accustoming MCU fans to a rapid pace of theatrical releases (i.e. 3 films per year), Disney made the wise decision to curb its enthusiasm and “only” release Deadpool & Wolverine in the last 10 months. However, the Avengers are back in 2025 with three films in seven months. The worst superheroes will be back in action next summer.
Marvel’s Suicide Squad
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been in an unprecedented crisis for several years. Surely “Deadpool & Wolverine” will put a smile on the faces of Disney and its investors again in 2024 by grossing $ 1.338 billion at the box office and having an estimated budget of 200 million, but in reality it is the tree that hides a dying forest. 2023 was a disastrous year for the MCU both in theaters and on Disney+. The spin-off series that aim to further develop the superhero universe of the House of Ideas are struggling to find their audience, and this trend is currently continuing.
Marvel is therefore calling on the most iconic Avengers in its stable to restart Phase 5 in Captain America: Brave New World before entrusting their fate to an MCU-style Suicide Squad. The Thunderbolts* are determined to save the world in their own way, far from the sanitized and morally acceptable framework of the Avengers, and thus fully express their respective talents.
The cast of Thunderbolts*: Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus
Thunderbolts* will be released in cinemas in France on April 30, 2025.
The future of the MCU in cinema in the period 2025-2026
Thunderbolts* continues Phase V of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in theaters, concluding on Disney+ with the series Daredevil: Born Again and Ironheart, expected on Disney+ March 4 and June 24, 2025. Then Phase VI begins barely a month later with the arrival of Marvel’s most famous team on the big screen… The Fantastic Four, whose “First Steps” was filmed by filmmaker Matt Sharkman (Games of Thrones). Then it’s time for the Avengers to get back into action in “Doomsday” and then in “Secret Wars.” Spider-Man 4 serves as an interlude between the two event films.
- Captain America: Brave New World (February 12, 2025)
- Thunderbolts* (April 30, 2025)
- The Fantastic Four: Getting Started (July 23, 2025)
- Avengers: Doomsday (April 29, 2026)
- Spider-Man 4 (July 22, 2026)
- Avengers: Secret Wars (May 5, 2027)
