The sparrows whistled from the rooftops that Marvel’s Avengers was not exactly crowned with success. In the annual report, publisher Square Enix now also admits the failure.
Marvel’s Avengers is still alive and well and is getting new content, but the game is obviously far from the intended result. Publisher Square Enix has now openly admitted this in its annual report. Although the title started with an ambitious Games as a Service model, it was far less successful than Square Enix would have liked.
At the same time, the publisher indicated that the inexperience of the developer Crystal Dynamics with regard to the Games as a Service model had played a bigger role. In this context, problems arose that had to be faced and resolved in future projects, also with regard to the skills and preferences of the development teams and studios.
Sqaure Enix wants to stick to Games as a Service, although basically that was the main criticism of Avengers. Games as a Service will become an even more widespread model in the games industry and it is now a matter of perfecting the implementation of the model and integrating it in a meaningful way instead of replacing it.
