Things aren’t really going well for Overwatch 2. Now another game mode is heading for the trash can due to a lack of interest from players, as Blizzard explains.
Overwatch 2 still doesn’t seem to be getting off the ground, especially when it comes to PvE content. After there were already reports that Blizzard doesn’t want to develop any more PvE content, a mode is now being removed from the game.
As Blizzard via Forum announced, Hero Mastery Gauntlet, a cooperative PvE mode, will be removed from the game with the upcoming Season 11.
The statement reads: “As we prepare for Season 11, we’ve taken the time to evaluate a number of game modes based on how often they are played. Hero Mastery Gauntlet was designed to bring the thrill of scoring the Hero Mastery missions into a multiplayer format. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been as well received by players as we had hoped. For this reason, we have decided to discontinue Hero Mastery Gauntlet as a permanent mode and it will no longer be playable starting in Season 11.
Players have until the end of Season 10 to complete the Hero Mastery Gauntlet Lifetime Challenge and compete in the mode’s top 500 rankings.”
At least the Hero Mastery Solo Courses will continue to exist and will be added in the coming seasons. Hero Mastery Gauntlet is a three-player mode in which you defend towers against waves of robots, using unique tools such as turrets and explosive barrels.
The mode was introduced just four months ago, but failed to gain traction among players, especially since it was very detached from the Overwatch story and normal progression mechanics.
