Ubisoft kept its word and showed the first game scenes from Star Wars: Outlaws. These are quite varied and present various elements of the game around the smuggler Kay and her alien buddy Nix.
At the opening presentation of the Summer Game Fest, Star Wars: Outlaws was only introduced with a story trailer, now, as promised, the first game scenes were revealed in the course of Ubisoft Forward 2023. These show very well why the title in the Star Wars universe is in good hands with Massive Entertainment.
>> All Star Wars games currently in development: lightsabers and blaster fire <<
First, we watch the protagonist Kay as she tries to escape from her victims’ hangar after it has been stolen. She moves from cover to cover and sometimes sends out her cuddly alien buddy Nix to activate equipment for her. For example, he activates a crane, which causes a crate to move, which Kay hangs on to avoid the prying eyes of those who have been robbed.
Of course, our smuggler can still be discovered in the end and we get our first glimpse of the blaster gameplay. From the cover she fires from all barrels, you can see that the blaster keeps overheating. You know it from Star Wars: Battlefront, for example.
After this section, there is a brief escape sequence on a speeder before Kay and Nix meet up with the robot ND-5 in Jaunta’s Hope. The city is unlikely to act as a hub, because after failed negotiations in a bar, our heroes must flee quickly. Here you can also see that you can make various decisions. For example, Kay had the choice of bribing the Imperial Soldier or not.
Finally there is a sequence in Kay’s spaceship. In the endless expanses, she shoots some ships from space in a relatively carefree manner. So you obviously don’t expect a flight simulation like Star Wars: Squadrons. Jumping to the speed of light takes some preparation time and then our heroine escapes and the gameplay ends.
All of this already makes a very rounded impression in the video and the period between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi Rescuers is also very exciting. Massive Entertainment has a history of third-person and cover shooter expertise, so we’ll be excited to see how good Star Wars: Outlaws turns out. But we still have to be patient until the release, according to the current plan, the game will not appear until sometime in 2024 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
