Almost a year after its release, Starfield is finally playable on good terms for certain players, but unfortunately it doesn’t come without concessions.
While a performance mode was finally brought to Xbox Series via a major patch, we had to wait for another more recent update, which notably added Creation Club. But a smooth experience comes with some inconveniences.
Starfield is finally playable smoothly on the Xbox Series S
In addition to showing us its first DLC, Shattered Space, expected later this year, Starfield also used the latest Xbox Games Showcase during Summer Game Fest 2024 to unveil a more immediate update. This added new content to the game as well as Creation Kit 2, allowing mods to be added on both PC and consoles. This is precisely what allowed modders to finally offer a smooth game on Xbox Series S.
Previously, Starfield was limited to 30 FPS on the latter, but now it can be displayed at 120 FPS or, as stated, even beyond Fuzion Xbox review
- Crowd reducer
- Inquisitor Project FPS Plus
- No divine rays
- Performance Shadows (Series S)
- Performance optimizations (S series)
- Remove grass
- Unlock FPS for Series S
Fluidity on the Xbox Series S, but it comes at a price
However, such fluidity on the technically less powerful Xbox Series S requires several concessions. First, the visual quality of Starfield will inevitably suffer a major hit, for example by removing grasses and other graphic elements. In addition, activating mods disables the receipt of achievements, possibly waiting for a mod to fix this trap.
Finally, modding the game on consoles literally comes at a price, with many Creation Club mods only accessible via checkout. Some of these can even reach a slightly inflated price of around 10 dollars. This rightly angered players, who responded by lynching Starfield through massive review bombing.
