A challenge that is as time consuming as it is useless and therefore essential
If you played The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the KingdomThey know that the latest title from Nintendo’s iconic franchise can be approached in many different ways. Freedom is at the heart of the gameplay and everything pushes us to experiment ourselves to create an à la carte experience. Of course, this also means that many players only follow the main quest and side quests, but others can take advantage of this freedom and do absolutely anything. Among the most persistent are the players who set each other the craziest challenges.
Bobby Blue Holidaywhich we also know by his nickname FiremanIcy9879 on Reddit, is a Zelda player already known for his crazy challenges. In addition to completing the game 100% in just under 500 hours, this time he decided to become the first player in the world to achieve the feat of reaching the maximum number of each item in his inventory. In other words, he wants to have 999 apples, 999 lumos seeds, 999 meat, etc. until you reach the maximum possible for every object in the game. He intends to achieve this feat in the most honest way possible, without exploiting the slightest flaw in object duplication. A challenge that makes Squall’s challenge (who had collected 999,999 spirits from the depths) seem like a simple walk in the park.
Currently, Bobby Blue Holliday has accumulated no less than 1575 hours of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom and he is not ready to stop. If we do the math, we’ve averaged six hours of playing time per day since the title was released on May 12, 2023. In the comments on his own Reddit post, the player explains: “While everyone sleeps, he saves Hyrule
Some items are harder to find than others
It must be said that this is not really the first time that Bobby Blue Holliday has taken on such a challenge. With “Zelda Breath of the Wild” he had already managed to achieve this goal by accumulating no less than 2,300 hours of play. However, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom offers more items and some have a maximum number in the inventory that is well over 999. At the request of our colleagues GamesRadar, Holliday believes that the most difficult product to grow is undoubtedly the “Max” ingredients and the Silencio trout. (which only appear in two places in the game). But if there is something that bothers him even more, it is precisely the fact that not all items have the same maximum number in the inventory. While he would have liked to have a grid full of 999s, he will only have to settle for a few more or less important objects at most.
In the GamesRadar article, Bobby Blue Holliday talks about the aforementioned exploit by Japanese player Squall. As a reminder, the latter had spent almost 1,900 hours retrieving 999,999 ghosts from the depths. Since he also has to face the task, he took the opportunity to examine Squall’s route and found that, despite a very quick playing time, it was not the most optimal for the feat. Even though he intends to be the first in the world to complete this challenge, we still wish Bobby Blue Holliday takes a few breaks from time to time. It’s not like he’s going to find serious competition overnight.
