Surely you already know Honor. And if not, you should: Honor has become one of the best tech brands in recent years. This may sound familiar to you because it was a sub-brand of Huawei: its mobiles and laptops were practically identical, in which in many cases only the design changed a little and, obviously, the logo of the brand: from Huawei to Honor and from Honor to Huawei.
However, since 2020 Honor has disassociated itself from Huawei and now it has the opportunity to shine in all its glory without having to be the shadow of the great Huawei.
Honor is a brand to consider when choosing a new mobile or laptop: its products offer excellent quality. We could say that its incredibly neat designs and cutting-edge specs stand out even in mid-range devices.
In fact, we recommend that you go through our recommendation of the best Honor mobiles, in case you are looking for a new smartphone.
Now, at the IFA technology event, in Berlin, we had the opportunity to see very closely the novelties that the brand presented. What stands out? Easy: the new Honor 70, a smartphone mid-range that shines in style (metaphorically and literally thanks to its reflective finish), the new Pad 8 (without i), the first Tablet
In addition to new hardware, there are also novelties in software thanks to the arrival of the new MagicOS 7.0, based on Android.
Honor 70: The best mid-range smartphone on the market?
We had the privilege of testing it for months before its release. Thanks to this, we now have the in-depth test of the Honor 70 available. In summary, we can say that the key point of this mobile, for many, will be the configuration of its cameras. It features a 54 MP main lens with a 1/1.49 inch IMX800 sensor and a 50 MP wide-angle and macro camera. In practice, as you can see from our review, the photos are as great as their specs promise.
Inside, bringing the phone to life, we have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G Plus 5G processor. It’s a chip that also gives life to other mid-range phones like the Honor Magic 4 Lite, the budget version of the flagship Honor Magic 4 Pro.
Phone performance is fast and efficient, you can open multiple apps at the same time and the phone will continue to work perfectly.
It is undoubtedly a very good mid-range mobile that could become the main star in this field or, at least, one of them.
We also have information on when and where you can buy the Honor 70.
MagicBook 14 (2022): It was already excellent in 2020 and 2021, is it also in 2022?
Yes it is. In fact, that was one of our top recommendations for anyone looking for a new laptop to buy: it’s great value for money.
In 2020 we had the opportunity to personally test the MagicBook 14 (2020) and we have already said the following about the device:
“The Honor Magicbook 14 offers an impressively elegant design, a large screen with very small edges and, above all, solid performance. Hard to believe that this laptop costs less than 600 dollars.”
Yet in 2021 Honor made a mistake (in our opinion) and that was to include Intel 11 processors, new at the time, pushing the product out of the mid-range with a price tag of over $1,000. Yes, it was a good laptop, but it stopped being the best mid-range laptop around to be a more premium laptop.
We still don’t know the price of the MagicBook 14 of this 2022, so we don’t know if it will maintain those more than 1000 dollars in cost that make it less attractive. What we do know is that it offers battery improvements (up to 20.8% improvement in battery performance), something we’ll have to personally test to see if that’s the case. or not.
It’s back to the latest 12th Gen Intel Core i5-12500H processor, which means Honor probably hasn’t lowered its prices any further. You will have the possibility of configuring a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2050 graphics card. These specifications speak of excellent performance which, once again, will have to be verified.
The battery will offer 17 hours of battery life, with fast charging, two good enough measures to be able to use the laptop often without having to plug it in for a long time.
Pad 8: The first Honor tablet
Honor shows great signs of wanting to consolidate itself as a brand capable of offering you all kinds of products for tech consumers and, proof of this, is its Pad 8, the first tablet available from the brand.
The tablet’s screen is a FullView 2K, a special 12-inch Honor screen, in this case. It has an 87% screen-to-body ratio, which isn’t bad at all.
We haven’t been able to test the tablet personally yet, but we were able to touch and play with it for a while at the Honor booth at IFA. The truth is that this is an application that looks premium, with a good finish and quite solid screen performance. The screen, although not the most premium screen on the market, offers crisp and vibrant colors that make this tablet a very attractive model.
