It’s a very interesting keyboard that offers different connection modes. Undoubtedly its peculiarities lie in the mechanical switches, the structure of the keyboard and other points thereof. Plus, it includes a series of unusual extras designed to optimize keyboard performance.
Very high-end gaming keyboard
ASUS wanted to develop a high-end solution for the most demanding users who want everything. The first thing that stands out about this keyboard and attracts the most attention is in the upper right corner. Includes a OLED screen Fully customizable that can display designs or different useful parameters. Among other things, it can display the keyboard load level, processor temperature and other relevant parameters.
The screen is the most attention-grabbing, but perhaps least relevant, aspect of gaming. Without a doubt, when it comes to gaming, what matters most to us is the mechanical switches
These ROG NX Red switches They are characterized by a drive stroke of 1.8 mm. This displacement is less than that usual for Cherry MX Red, so valuable in gaming. Although its strong point is not this, but the fact that the mechanism can be opened. We can remove the upper case and lubricate the mechanism using a kit that comes with the keyboard itself.
Another nice feature is the surface mounting of the switches which allows them to be removed without any problem. These are not soldered directly to the PCB, so they can be easily removed and replaced. We could change them for others also from ASUS or for the three included in the pack. Note that although they can be hot swapped, ASUS does not recommend this to avoid short circuits.
Th is keyboard incorporates several very interesting additional features. The first is that it has silicone gaskets that act as shock absorbers when we write or play. This allows us to achieve an improved writing sensation. Additionally, it features multiple layers of silicone foam to absorb noise and eliminate pulsation echoes.
Note that this keyboard That works through Bluetooth or via the 2.4 GHz band, integrating a very resistant battery. For charging we can do it by cable with USB-C connector and we can also use it wired, if we want.
Great keyboard for gaming, but imperfect?
Perhaps the biggest problem with this keyboard is that it is QWERTZ type. This means that the positions of the “Y” and “Z” have been swapped. It only differs from the QWERTY setup in this respect, but for someone who has used it all their life, it can be a headache.
You might think that changing the position keys and reprogramming the keys will solve the problem. The problem is that each row of keys has a different angle. If we change the keys, we will notice a significant difference in touch which is annoying. We don’t know why ASUS made this decision for the Spanish keyboard, but it’s extremely uncomfortable.
The second problem, which is not so serious, concerns the material used for the keycaps. ASUS used laser-etched ABS material, which is basically nothing wrong. We are talking about a fairly expensive high-end keyboard and this type of material ages less well and usually accumulates a light layer like grease. Without a doubt, for this type of keyboard the best would be the double-printed PBT, more robust and durable.
We can say that it is a huge keyboard with great features, but with some flaws. The ASUS ROG Azoth costs 250 dollars, a high price considering these two “defects” that we mentioned. Tell us, would you buy this keyboard?
