I didn’t try to recruit Kokomi, the water element healer, during her initial, limited release. Instead, I chose to skip them for Childe, the water-based archer who can slay entire packs of enemies in a matter of seconds. I regret that now. After spending over a hundred wishes to get Childe (which would have cost around $300 had I bought gacha packs individually instead of grinding quests for them), I finally replaced him with the recently upgraded Kokomi. Attention Hydro family: DPS Kokomi is here and she is a human tower.
Kokomi w as widely derided
All of this could of course have been prevented if the Ocean colored shell set had been there when she first joined the game. This artifact set allows a character to trade additionally Damage when they overheal and it was custom made for Kokomi. Equipping them will catapult their damage output into respectable 5-star limited character territory. She’s still a support character, but now her damage output finally helps justify her gacha rarity a bit more.
In truth, it was mostly just the limit of her damage cap that was holding her back. Unlike a recent character that was as flawed as HoYoverse forced to apologize, Kokomi’s skills have always been well implemented. The jellyfish she spawns with her elemental ability can not only heal your allies, but also apply a constant “Wet” status to nearby enemies. This makes it easier to achieve powerful “vaporize” and “freeze” reactions. Oh boy I haven’t had this much fun since I was a Zhongli main.
And her healing abilities have always been great, so she’s practically a tank. Sometimes I “forget” to have Zhongli throw up a shield before swapping it out because Kokomi will soon be filling up her own health bar anyway. Playing as Kokomi is fun because her playstyle is forgiving of mistakes and experimentation. And where players taunted her for not being able to crit, the fact that I didn’t have to give her items that boosted crit percentage actually gave me more leeway to boost her other stats. Not having to tweak every artifact for critical hits took a tremendous load off my shoulders.
Full Disclosure: I don’t usually care about the endgame spiral abyss mode. What I to do Worry about running to a group of enemies in the overworld, knocking down Kokomi’s jellyfish, and raining down Ganyu or Shenhe’s ice-based burst to freeze them all in their tracks. Mona’s aggressive drawing Phantom ability can technically do the same thing, but it doesn’t heal. Want consistent damage without having to rely on targeting the RNG gods? Kokomi can do that. Want cures? hydro application? The most beautiful attack animations on the whole Inazuma region
Best of all, I’ve found her to be extremely cheap to build. I snagged her free signature weapon during the Enkanomiya event. I’ve had good experiences with it too Prototype of an amber catalyst, which you can easily craft at any Forge. The best thing about building Kokomi is that she allows for absurd conversion of HP to damage with her Elemental Burst (an ult that grants her additional passive abilities). So if HP weapons or artifacts you collected are gathering dust, Kokomi wants them. Like any good tactician, she carries you even when you don’t give her your best.
Mona is still the steam queen. Childe is still king when it comes to crushing large groups of enemies. Ayato stacks crits on anything he comes in contact with. The best in gaming genshin is that each has its own niche within the meta. Unlike a one-person army, Kokomis is the only support character I can consistently rely on, and I love her for that.
