Midnight Club season 2 canceled on Netflix – this is how it would have ended

The Midnight Club will not have another meeting. Canceled from Netflix in early December, horror master Mike Flanagan’s warm-yet-spooky foray into YA horror was also his first stab at an open-ended TV series, so it didn’t end as neatly as his other limited series midnight fair or The Haunting of Hill House. the writer/director did something unusual and just told fans how he and the other writers planned to finish it.

In a long tumblr postFlanagan outlined what season 2 of The Midnight Club would have looked. The first big change would have been structural: while most episodes revolved around a cast member telling a spooky story based on a Christopher Pike novel, the protagonist Ilonka (Iman Benson) would have a version of it for the first five episodes told Remember me

, Flanagan’s favorite Pike novel, in five installments. It’s about a girl who gets thrown off a balcony and then tries to solve her own murder as a ghost – with a few ruinous twists on how that relates to what the cast is dealing with by the end of season one.

A recurring thread in Flanagan’s draft for the season is that almost every frightening image or motif introduced in season one has a bittersweet and heartfelt story behind it. It fits a show about terminal teenagers living together and confronting their fate through scary stories. in the The Midnight Club

As with much of Flanagan’s work, fear is just an obstacle in the characters’ journey to discovering something human and beautiful.
