Capcom’s latest update for Rise of the Monster Hunters on Steam has partially broken compatibility with Steam Deck, with users reporting that they are no longer allowed to load the game on Valve’s handheld PC gaming platform.

In a statement posted on SteamCapcom admitted that it has “confirmed an issue that is preventing the game from running on Steam Deck” and is “currently investigating” player reports about it. Following Monday’s update, Rise of the Monster Hunters Players have reached out to Capcom on the game’s store page and written negative reviews of the DRM change. The change in Rise of the Monster Hunters DRM – which apparently is also included another Piece of protection software with the name The siege – follows a recent change Capcom made to the Steam version of Resident Evil: Revelations. This 2013 Resident Evil game also added Enigma Protector, which led to reported performance issues with the game. Capcom ultimately pulled this update and stated that it plans to re-release it once the outstanding issues with it are resolved.
Capcom has added Enigma Protector to parts of its back catalog on Steam, including Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collectionand several Mega Man Legacy Collection titles. The publisher also reportedly removed YouTube videos from Monster Hunter speedrunning groups that featured modified versions of Monster Hunter Rise of the Monster Hunters extension sunburn. Enigma Protector is partly an attempt to restrict third-party mods in PC games.
