When MultiVersusWarner Bros. crossover fighting game, was in beta, Scooby-Doo‘s Velma was probably the best fighter on the list. Two years later, the game has officially been released and Jinkies, the queen, has lost her crown and become one of the worst characters in the game. The fall from grace was so severe that stats tracking sites like Tracker network
Players have reported on websites How MultiVersus Subreddit that they have seen very little of Velma since the game launched in version 1.0. Although the game is bigger problems More than just a fighter’s balance after the rocky relaunch, the sharp drop from the top tier to the bottom of the rankings is cause for concern. Fans say Velma’s kit doesn’t have the same impact as it once did, with her long-range attacks cited as the biggest casualty of her nerfs.
“She needs the damn megaphone back and her lightbulb got rammed into the floorboards,” Sticky_Pwnz wrote on Reddit. “Side Attack feels bad too. They did her evil, brothers.”
The changes to her megaphone were particularly annoying. In the beta, this ranged attack fired instantly and gained power over time. In 1.0, Velma has to charge the attack before it can fire, and its range has been shortened.
“It’s weird being a projectile character when all your projectiles are melee range,” MikeRockstheBoat wrote on Reddit. “The speech bubbles still go a bit, but good luck getting them to work if you can’t paint them with the megaphone first.”
Although Velma’s dominance made her a force to be reckoned with in the beta, fans feel that developer Player First Games went overboard in trying to balance her.
“There needs to be a balance when nerfing a character,” wrote Reddit user Wanderwut. “Going from taking Velma from one of the best units in the game to one of the worst, to the point where you can’t even see her anymore, is overkill.”
At the time of writing, Velma has a paltry 0.3% pick rate for 1v1 matches on Tracker Nation, with her pick rate for team matches only slightly higher at 0.6%. While this is based on only a portion of the data, it seems to be a strong indication of what players are experiencing. If you look at the responses on official MultiVersus Accounts, you will Find fans begging for reinforcements. Hopefully she gets it, because it’s a shame she fell so far considering how powerful she was. In a detail that was eventually fixed, the Queen called the police once as one of her attacks. Now, no one uses her often enough to summon the Mystery Machine.
