The final episode of the first season of Disney Plus Percy Jackson Series ends the adaptation of The Lightning Thief with a brawl on the beach, the unmasking of a traitor and a tearful reunion.
Previous episodes have ended with a tease of what’s next, but is there a preview of Season 2? No, but there Is a small post-credits scene showing the fate of an important character.
[Ed. note: This post contains major spoilers for Percy Jackson and the Olympians (as well as the book and first movie).]
In the post-credits scene, Sally Jackson’s dirty ex-husband Gabe (Timm Sharp) tries to break into her apartment while he’s on the phone with his lawyer. However, she wisely changed the locks so he can’t get in. But he spots a package on the Jacksons’ doorstep and decides to open it. This happens to be a package addressed to Percy that contains Medusa’s severed head.
He opens it, looks straight inside and immediately turns to stone. Get ruined, Gabe.
Gabe doesn’t appear in any of the books after the first, and considering Sally only married him because his disgusting mortal stench covered up Percy’s smell of monsters, that’s no loss. In fact, we’re all pretty happy to see him out of the way.
This is actually similar to the infamous film’s post-credits scene, where Gabe returns to the apartment to pack his things. He goes to the kitchen to get a beer, but finds the fridge locked and a note from Percy saying that no one should open the fridge. Undeterred, Gabe opens the lock – and is then frozen by Medusa’s head.
Yet somehow none of these versions are nearly as deliciously brutal as his fate in the book series. In the books, it’s actually Sally who uses the head to freeze Gabe Then
Whether Sally will find the frozen Gabe and benefit from him on the show is unclear, but she certainly deserves to make a splash in the art world and fund her passion for writing.
All episodes of Percy Jackson and the Olympians are now available on Disney Plus. Here’s everything we know about Season 2.
