Brilliant Hunt In Pokemon Gaming is a popular pastime for the craziest of weirdos looking for rare, differently colored critters. Some people are so enthusiastic that they stream themselves while running multiple instances of a game at once to track one down. Then there are those who are so dedicated that they try to Starter Pokémon
Twitch streamer Aelfgar innocently streamed several instances of the Japanese version of Pokémon Sapphire looking for a shiny Treecko. The grass-type gecko is one of the starter Pokémon of Generation III, and its shiny form is pretty funky. Its green skin is replaced with an aquamarine blue and its tail becomes orange-red, and this color scheme remains throughout its evolutionary line. It’s easy to understand why someone would want these rare colors instead of the standard green. That’s what Aelfgar was hoping for on July 9 when he revealed his sapphire Games in stream for over two hours and waited for one to show his red tail… until he accidentally reset the game when two of them showed up.
Volume warning:
The pain is palpable as he is left speechless while rewatching his own clip. He decides to end the stream at this point, saying he will cry off-camera while playing. Pokémon Black And Whitemelancholy “Unshakable emotions” Song in the background.
In a Follow TweetAelfgar confirmed that the two Shiny Treeckos came from two different ROMs (read-only memory) and not from a mirrored stream from a video source. However, there is some extremely technical inside information in the backend that makes this result more likely. As the people Pokemon Content Creator Shiny Catherine points out
Some may raise eyebrows at the logistics, but Aelfgar’s reaction is genuine nonetheless. “Brutal” doesn’t even begin to describe it. But a Pokémon Trainer’s work is never done, so he carried on the next day, and it only took about an hour and a half for a new shiny Treecko to appear.
What is shiny hunting but an emotional rollercoaster? It doesn’t usually happen on this scale in front of millions of viewers across multiple platforms, but at least Aelfgar didn’t have to wait long to redeem himself.
