The Sword of the Night is a katana that is only available in Fire ring‘S Shadow of the Earth Tree Expansion. It’s an excellent weapon for skill builds looking for something new, but it’s worth noting that you’ll have to complete a relatively long quest to get it. However, if you’re willing to do that, this ranks as one of the best new weapons in the DLC.
Here’s what you need to know about the Sword of Night and where to find it.
Sword of Night Statistics and Features
The Sword of Night has a weight of 6.5 and requires the following stats to carry:
The weapon comes equipped with Ash of War: Witching Hour Slash. This Ash of War fills your katana with darkness before unleashing a barrage of attacks. These attacks cannot be blocked by enemies or other players. The ability can be charged for additional damage, but you should be careful to time this correctly so you are not caught in the animation when an incoming strike is made.
The Sword of Night can be upgraded to +10 with Dark Forgestones.
Sword of the Night Item Description
The item description of the Sword of Night is:
“A sword of an all-consuming, bottomless black that devours even the light that shines upon it. Wielded by Jolán, Sword Hand of the Night.
The blade of the sword is only half-corporeal and therefore cannot be completely protected from it.”
Where can I find the Sword of the Night?
Getting your hands on the Sword of Night won’t be easy, but follow us and we’ll get you there. You’ll need to visit the Cathedral of Manus Metyr in western Scadu Altus, where you’ll find an NPC named Count Ymir sitting on a throne. He’ll send you on a series of quests that involve several Finger Ruins throughout the Land of Shadow.
On your first visit to Count Ymir, he will give you a map and a necklace laden with holes. You must take these to the Finger Ruins of Rhia (accessible via the South Coast region). When you get there, approach the bell (finger?) in the middle of the ruins to receive the Crimson Seed Talisman +1 as a reward.
After visiting the Finger Ruins of Rhia, return to Count Ymir to receive a new card alongside Beloved Stardust. You must take this item to the Finger Ruins of Dheo, which is exceptionally well hidden behind a statue near the Back Gate Site of Grace in Shadow Keep.
Approach the statue in a room next to the Site of Grace and make the “O, Mother” gesture.
This will open a path into the hinterlands that leads directly to the Finger Ruins of Dheo. Interact with the bell (finger?) in the center of the ruins again to receive the Cerulean Seed Talisman +1.
Head back to speak to Count Ymir once more to get one final map. Afterward, reset the area by teleporting away from the Cathedral of Manus Metyr and then returning to it. You’ll find that Count Ymir has disappeared, but you can approach the throne and interact with him to head down to the Finger Ruins of Miyr.
At the end of this new area, you’ll face off against the boss Metyr, Mother of Fingers. With the appropriate levels and enough Scadutree Fragments collected, she’s one of the more straightforward and easier main bosses in the DLC.
If Metyr, Mother of Fingers falls to you, return and interact with the throne a second time to spawn the invader Swordhand of the Night Jolan. This is a simple NPC fight and doesn’t take long. However, if she dies, Count Ymir will respawn, so be prepared for another fight.
The Count Ymir, Mother of Fingers boss doesn’t have a lot of HP, so you can defeat him fairly quickly with spells or high damage abilities. The only major concern of the fight is the Fingercreepers he spawns, but you should be able to clear the arena of them with a few quick attacks.
When Count Ymir is finally defeated, fast travel away and return to the throne room one last time. Leaning against a pillar near the throne is Jolan. Assuming you found the Iris of Mercy and/or Iris of Concealment items during your journey, you will have the option to give her just one of them.
Choose the Iris of Concealment. When Jolan dies, you can loot the glowing item she leaves behind to finally obtain the Sword of Night.
Note: If you haven’t found an Iris of Concealment yet, you can easily find one by defeating the Lesser Omenkiller in the Fort of Reprimand in Scadu Altus. Alternatively, you can kill a Lesser Ulcerated Spirit in the Church Quarter of the Shadow Keep, though this requires a bit more work.
