More last of us could be on the way, at least in the form of a “next-gen” PlayStation 5. upgrade for The Last of Us Part II. Composer Gustavo Santaolalla hinted in a recent interview that “re-releases” of the game are in the works that would expand on his character’s cameo.
Santaolalla’s character has only a brief role in the PS4 version of the game, strumming a banjo in Jackson City. He said in one Interview with Blender
my city contacted Naughty Dog for comment.
The musician should probably not reveal that much, since there is no official teaser for a new version of The Last of Us Part II. However, it wouldn’t be a surprise that Naughty Dog is working on one. Sony has developed PS5 versions of recent PS4 hits like Death Stranding
“Next-gen” upgrades not only bring more content, improve visuals and performance, and introduce new accessibility options, but are also a great way for companies to “double-drop” their sales, as described in a Report 2021 by Bloomberg. At the end of the PS4 console generation, a PS5 port of Part II would be a good way to make it accessible to new PlayStation owners who haven’t played the game yet, by taking advantage of backwards compatibility. It’s also a way to charge $70 for it.
It’s also the “latest” Last of Us content that fans are likely to see in the near future. Naughty Dog has been reticent about its plans Last of Us Part III ssequel and the planned multiplayer spin-off, Last of us factions, According to reports, there were production bottlenecks earlier in the year. The second season of the HBO adaptation is also currently in limbo as Hollywood writers and actors go on strike.
