Mortal KombatAccording to a Variety report, the upcoming film adaptation of Warner Bros. from the video game series has been delayed by a week. Originally planned for April 16, Mortal Kombat will now hit theaters and HBO Max on April 23rd. Warner Bros. confirmed the delay for Polygon.
The film, directed by Simon McQuoid, received its first full trailer in February, featuring an original character named Cole Young, a fighter with a suspiciously shaped dragon’s birthmark. In addition to Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Jax and Sonya Blade, Cole takes part in the “Mortal Kombat” tournament, among other things, to compete against the villains Sub-Zero and Shang Tsung. Of course there is violence – enough for an R rating compared to 1995 Mortal Kombat
The film has been postponed several times due to the pandemic, but the reason for this final one week delay was not immediately available.
HBO Max subscribers can watch Mortal Kombat without additional costs. In-theater performances are likely to be restricted due to restrictions related to pandemics.
