Microsoft today announced a new and very cool Xbox controller: the “Remix Special Edition, which is made (at least in part) from recycled plastic.
Released to coincide with the Earth Day celebrations, this controller consists of “Post-consumer recycled resins with regrind made up of previously molded colored parts,” which one marketing rep puts it: “We took loads of old plastic, ground it down into tiny particles, made new plastic out of it, and then used it to make this.” controller”.
This old plastic was sourced from “leftover controller parts from the Xbox One generation” while “reclaimed materials such as car headlight covers, plastic water jugs and CDs were also thrown into the mix.
Of course, this has an ecological, but also a visual advantage: Such “grind” products –which are becoming more prevalent everywhere, even in clothing—always have unique designs as the mix of colors and particles is different for each controller.
G/O Media may receive a commission
I don’t know if I’m the biggest fan of the color scheme here; I understand the ecological aspect, but it also reminds me of IKEA baby cutlery (although the wood grain pattern on the grips is like wood grain in any video game console or controller, always welcome).
This particular controller also comes with the one from Microsoft Xbox Rechargeable Battery Pack, so you don’t have to use disposable batteries, although most of the time the company’s environmental concerns ring a bit hollow in this particular case other
It should also be noted that only part of the controller is made from recycled plastic (33% to be exactsays microsoft my city), not the whole; although almost all recycled plastic products do thisand the number is often much lower (In the case of Adidas, for example, sometimes it was…0%)
The Remix Special Edition costs $85 and will be released on April 18th.
