When the world of creativity turns somersaults that seem impossible to perform, sometimes it turns out well and other times regular, but the normal thing is that someone ends up hitting the ground. With a mix that unites graphic adventure, escape room and interactive card game with a mobile application, I didn’t know what I was going to find in Unlock!
The saga already has a good handful of different editions with options for all tastes, including one focused on Star Wars and another for children, but in our case the one we could try was Unlock! Heroic and his adventure based on the world of video games: Insert Coin.
A mix that works perfectly
Go ahead, I’m usually pretty bad at everything that has to do with escape rooms. Not because I don’t know how to see the clues, but because my head always tends to go 27 steps further and I go in search of the most twisted and complex options possible when solving a challenge.
Luckily, and to my surprise, it caught my attention that Unlock! speak my language in many of his challenges. And it is that although we had to resort to the clues to get unstuck on some occasion, seeing reflected the tremendous madness that had been taken out of the sleeve to be able to find the solution was a pleasant surprise.
The trick of having three adventures per box makes it a bit easier to want to look at a board game that, once completed, will not leave you room for many more joys, but if you like it, it is easy for you to end up approaching the rest of the editions.
In any case, once finished, by lor easy that is to explain and start playingit seems one of those highly recommended options to keep the group entertained while you prepare the next game or remember the rules of the next thing you are going to play.
How to play Unlock!
With a deck of cards that comes previously ordered, the idea is to continue the adventure that it proposes in a format similar to the classic one “choose your own adventure”. While the first card will put us in the situation and detail what the next cards to draw from the deck will be (we must look for the one with the correct number), from here we fly free.
Maybe we find hidden numbers in one of those released cards, maybe by combining the numbers of one card and another we discover the next one that we must draw from the deck, or maybe we have a special object in one of those cards that, through the use of the mobile application
Although the bulk of the game is what we discover on our own alone or cooperatively in these cards, the application will help us add another point of interaction with ideas that range from augmented reality to entering codes to unlock the next steps to continue.
The grace is that, with completely different stories and formats from each other, the use we will make of the application will be different from one adventure to another and there is always a surprise waiting on the back of the next letter. That yes, to Unlock! Go with the idea of managing frustration well and without fear of pressing the hint button from time to time so that you do not choke on a challenge.
