News culture Crunchyroll and Netflix threatened: a rival signs a major partnership to broadcast anime in France
Now, alongside Crunchyroll and Netflix, another candidate is flexing its muscles when it comes to anime in France. Yes, this SVOD service just signed an agreement with a major partner.
While Netflix recently offered the final arc of the One Piece series, another SVOD service specializing in Japanese animation is showing its strengths… It’s DNA! The famous platform announces this Thursday, December 18th, the signing of an agreement with MBS, described as “one of Japan’s oldest television and radio companies – known in particular for its continued presence in the anime industry,” we can read here. This means that ADN now has the broadcast rights to several MBS series, which will gradually be available on its platform throughout the year.
A promising first anime
If the name “MBS” doesn’t mean anything to you, know that we owe it to him for the broadcast in Japan of the anime Jujutsu Kaisen, Tokyo Revengers, Attack on Titan or Fullmetal Alchemist… The last two series are already available on ADN (we don’t know yet , whether the rest will follow or whether the agreement will only affect MBS programs that will be broadcast from the beginning of 2024). At least given the names mentioned DNA grabs a nice piece
This distribution agreement reflects that the market remains very dynamic and alternatives are needed. We believe that an actor like ADN can bring a lot to the animation market and make it possible to offer fans the most complete offering. – Julien Lemoine, Managing Director of ADN
And so: What will be the first MBS program to be added to the ADN catalog? Tension… C’est Pon no Michi (also broadcast on the platform in simulcast since January 5, 2024). This is a series about Mahjong! One day, Nashiko, a young high school student, comes across her father’s old playroom and decides to restore it. That’s why she takes over the place with her friends to “chat, cook, drink tea and – occasionally – play mahjong,” the press release says. “A story that highlights the joy and beauty of everyday life.” Further information on this agreement is awaited.
