After many years of absence, a cult game is back on Steam. To celebrate, the Valve platform is offering the title at a reduced price, but the promotion is limited.
The problem with all digital platforms like Steam is that games can disappear without warning, and players have absolutely no choice but to wait patiently for a possible return. This usually happens due to the expiration of licenses, for example when using certain in-game music. Unless a new addition to the original contract is found, it is impossible to offer a title for sale as is. This cult action RPG has paid its price for a very long time.
A cult game from 2010, available again on Steam
It’s the week of the unexpected return with Resident Evil on GOG. Capcom’s legendary survival horror is finally available on the store for $ 9.99. And that’s big news, because until now this 1996 version had never appeared on PC. The bug has been fixed and the publisher will add Resident Evil 2 & 3 in their original form by the end of the year. In March 2024, GOG w as also able to get its hands on Alpha Protocol. For some, a cult action RPG developed by Obsidian Entertainment (Awoved, Fallout New Vegas) released in 2010. It was removed from the platform and Steam due to the expiration of music licenses such as Final Countdown from Europe.
Like GOG, Steam was able to bring Alpha Protocol back online… but there seems to be a big problem. Many point out that the last update dates back to 2020. This does not mean that the game available on Steam takes advantage of the new features described by GOG. Namely, achievements, licensed soundtrack, support for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch controllers.
On the Internet, some people think that the version ofAlpha Protocol on Steam may receive a patch later. Unlike GOG, the platform has not even communicated this highly anticipated return. On the other hand, there is a promotion until July 18, 2024 where you can buy the software for $15.99 instead of $19.99.
