Nothing seems to be stopping Larian Studios. Not content with having won everything with Baldur’s Gate 3, the company is thinking big for its next chapter.
Larian Studios had earned a good reputation with Divinity Original Sin 2, but with the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 the game took on a whole new dimension. The challenge was risky for the Belgian developers, but the bet was decisively won. The game and the studio won everything that came their way, the prestigious GOTY titles, the awards, sales that exceeded all expectations… a beautiful, critical D20! However, there is no question that they only go where they are expected. No more Baldur’s Gate 4 from them, no more Dungeons & Dragons, but two other games that we are promised will be more ambitious. And to realize his vision, Larian Studios will be bolstering its ranks.
After the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian is expanding its ranks
Larian will turn the page of Baldur’s Gate 3, but another chapter will open. This Monday, May 20, 2024, the independent company announced the opening of a whole new studio in Poland, where video game development continues to grow. It is also certain that their bid will attract local talent from CD Projekt Red, Techland, 11 Bit Studios or Blooper Team (to name a few). Larian Warsaw should therefore support the main studio based in Belgium, like its counterparts in Canada, Ireland, Great Britain, Europe and Malaysia, in the development of the next two productions.
« With two very ambitious RPGs just starting development, what better way to realize our vision than to expand the team and open a seventh studio in the heart of the Polish gaming scene », explained the developer of Baldur’s Gate 3 on his social networks. Few details are known about these future games, other than that they will be based on their original licenses. “We’re not going to do Baldur’s Gate 4, which is what everyone expects of us. We’re going to move forward, move away from D&D and start creating something new,” said Larian director Swen Vinke, who also recently ruled out a Divinity Original Sin 3.
However, Baldur’s Gate 3 is not completely abandoned. Some of the staff continue to follow the award-winning blockbuster. A new major update with new endings will be released soon, while a photo mode and cross-platform modding solutions are still on the agenda. However, you shouldn’t expect any DLC, as Larian has been very formal on the subject.
