A series of leaks emerged over the weekend that appear to have a major impact on Microsoft’s Xbox plans. Reports from The edge And XboxEra claim that two major Bethesda releases, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle And Starfield, could both be coming to PlayStation 5, adding to the pile of Xbox multiplatform rumors that have been building up over the past few months.
The edgeAccording to the report, a source close to Bethesda told the outlet that MachineGames, which is owned by Bethesda Softworks parent company ZeniMax Media, is “considering” the release. new Indiana Jones Game on PlayStation 5 sometime after the release on PC and Xbox Series X/S in 2024. This would be a full-circle moment, considering Indiana Jones Midquel was originally intended for release on PlayStation 5 before Xbox’s acquisition of Bethesda back in 2021. Fans got one Get your first look at the first-person action game in January Xbox Developer Direct.
XboxEraMeanwhile, reported that its sources had informed it of plans for one Starfield
All of this follows weeks of rumors and speculation about the rhythm-action game HiFi Rushdeveloped by Tango Gameworks under the auspices of Bethesda, and Rare’s multiplayer pirate game Sea of Thievescould also be released for PlayStation in the near future. The edgeThe story says a HiFi Rush The announcement is planned for “the coming weeks” and data also suggests that PlayStation and Switch-exclusive shirts for the main character will be available exist in the code.
So what should we take away from this? For starters, Microsoft has explained that the billions of dollars it spent on acquisitions didn’t mean that every game from its new first-party subsidiaries would be exclusive to Xbox and PC. Xbox boss Phil Spencer even said it doesn’t believe exclusives are the future of the industryand before all these rumors, several properties acquired by Microsoft remained on multiple platforms, such as: Minecraft And call of Duty (although A deal had to be made to make this possible so that the Activision takeover can go ahead).
What’s worth noting is that several of these rumored PlayStation ports come from Bethesda Studios and also from Spencer said when the takeover came about that not every game from these developers would be available exclusively for Xbox and PC. Although the details of what was said were covered in company discussions that gave the company a chance, Spencer’s underlying opinion was that Bethesda’s games could still come to other platforms for one reason or another.
So obviously I can’t sit here and say that every Bethesda game is exclusive, because we know that’s not true – there are contractual obligations that we will uphold, as we always do in each of these cases. We have games that exist on other plat forms, and we will support those games on the platforms they run on. There are player communities, we love these players and we will invest in them.
And even in the future, there may be things that are either contractual in nature or exist on different platforms that we’ll do, but if you’re an Xbox customer, I want you to know that this is about delivering great exclusive games goes for you, which are sent to platforms where Game Pass exists. And that’s our goal, that’s why we’re doing this, that’s the root of this partnership that we’re building, and the creative capabilities that we can bring to market for our Xbox customers will be the best there’s ever been for Xbox after we’re done here.
Although this has been Xbox’s message for years at this point, some Xbox fans still seem reluctant to believe that this day could come. Xbox has already been criticized by vocal, strictly monogamous console owners for bringing its games to PC, claiming that not having exclusive games devalues Xbox itself. This feeling only gets stronger when gloriole or War equipment will appear on competing consoles. But if you are I sell every Xbox system at a loss, you can start earning this money by selling your games on other platforms and getting your share. If you want the brand to continue in some form, maybe take a step back and remember that capitalism is a numbers game. As games become more and more expensive to make, no amount of idealized console war bullshit is worth it the human cost of a game not making its money back. Xbox only has cut nearly 2,000 jobs across the companyand it can happen again.
