Last year, The retro future made a very long Game Boy, and frankly, where else can you go other than do a very extensive Game Boy Advance.
There is no practical reason for that. The video itself is called “I widened the GameBoy Advance for no reason”. And yet there can be reasons. First of all, I really like the dimensions, as if a caricaturist had made a loving caricature of the original handheld.
But maybe there are also practical purposes for this? Handheld video games have come a long way in the last 20 years, and where it used to be perfectly fine to release a smaller Game Boy where you clench your hands like a big crab, nowadays we’re closer to the breadth of that something like the switch, so maybe that would be bizarrely more convenient for our modern perception?
Or not, since it is actually only there for the “funny effect”. Anyway, kidding aside, this is still really impressive! Usually, console hacks like this one come with all sorts of rough edges and tradeoffs, but the bodywork here is very good, and even if he flips it over in the light, it looks like Nintendo actually released when we’re in a world who lived in Nintendo were even crazier about this stuff than they already are.
In case you haven’t seen the original Long Game Boy video from May 2020, which is probably even funnier, here it is:
