Ubisoft’s The crew, which was released in 2014 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, was delisted without warning. The servers will also be shut down next year. And since the game is an always-online experience, Ubisoft has confirmed that it will no longer be playable in this case.
The crew is a massive open-world driving game set in a digital (not to scale) replica of the United States of America. While the narrative was a strange, melodramatic tale of car gangs and criminals, this was the real reason to play The crew

Since the game is always online, this means that the game will also be available to anyone who purchased it digitally or physically once the servers are dead.
“We understand that this may be disappointing to players who are still enjoying the game,” Ubisoft said. “But it has become a necessity due to upcoming server infrastructure and licensing restrictions.”
Ubisoft tells people who recently purchased The crew may be eligible for a refund, but is offering nothing else for players who permanently lose access to a game they purchased in a few months.
“The decommissioning of a game, especially our first, is not something we take lightly,” Ubisoft said. “Our goal remains to provide players with the best action gameplay experience and to achieve this we continue to provide new content and support The crew 2 and the recently introduced The Crew Motorfest.”
While I don’t expect companies to support online games for decades, it would be nice if games were developed so that if the servers ever fail, they can be converted to an offline experience. Otherwise, in 10 to 15 years we will have many games that will no longer be playable, even if you own the CD.
