Last night video game preservation group, The hidden palace, released over 700 PS2 early builds, prototypes, E3 and demos of press releases in a massive dump that the group called “Project flood”.
The Hidden Palace hosted a stream on Twitch that lasted over six hours on Saturday night. During that stream, they presented a number of PS2 pre-releases and demos for various games, including Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex, LEGO Star Wars The Video Game, Crazy Taxi, and Final Fantasy X-2.
Some of these early builds were only shown at shows like E3 and were designed specifically for preview coverage. Other early versions include debug and beta development builds. All of this was found and Protected from sale or disposal by someone who has worked with The Hidden Palace and Internet Archive to properly catalog and upload all of these files. In total, this adds up to over 850 GB of data
It’s a treasure trove of video game history that The Hidden Palace scoured for almost a year, weeding out retail buildings and saving only unpublished prototypes and unpublished revisions. You can read more about the details of how the team did this a blog post on the group’s website
And surprisingly, Project Deluge isn’t finished yet. The team claims they have a lot more prototypes to sift through and plans to release them soon, but they don’t have a more precise date than this.
